Good news!

Shaw is a fighter (and a pistol). At midnight tonight, Shaw decided it was time for him to be extubated. With a little help from his nurse (by accident), Shaw's tube came out.

There was a flurry of activity, setting the doctors and nurses into panic as a team of six worked around Shaw to ensure he didn't aspirate and that the bile from his stomach, now shooting out of the tube was shielded from swallowing.

Michael and I huddled in the corner waiting for word that Shaw was okay.

Finally, Shaw stabilized....on his own!!!! He began breathing (with a little assistance from a nose canula). We all cheered.

Since three this morning, Shaw has been sleeping on and off. He is slowly coming off the medication. Michael and I have been taking shifts holding/rocking/calming. Shaw is wrapped in a zillion wires. Between trying to keep those from getting tangled, while keeping the 02 directly in his nose - Shaw has kept us very busy.

Now we wait for him to wake up completely and access.

Thank you for so many prayers.
